Love Story from the Bride and Groom: “Josh and I met eleven years ago in Charleston, SC through my best friend Ann Mayfield (Matron of Honor). Ann and I were attending Johnson & Wales University at the time. Ann and Josh worked together. When I graduated culinary school I moved to Ohio for my first job. I would fly down to see Ann and would always end up hanging out with Josh. We parted ways after I moved to Atlanta. Then as fate would have it Josh started working in Atlanta and I saw his post on Facebook saying he would be in town if any friends wanted to hang out. Ann of course saw the post and immediately called saying you better respond or I will for you. Needless to say we met up and have been together ever since. My dogs fell in love with him before I did. I would go as far to say my German Shepard Lelu would leave me if anything ever changed between Josh and I. We both threw each other to the wolves so to say when it came to meeting our Families. Josh met my mom and her entire side of the family at a family reunion. My cousin Phil even tried to psycho analyze him, but Josh had been warned so he messed with Phil in return. He then met my brother and his family on the way to North Carolina for me to meet his parents. I then got to meet Stoney & Karen on Fourth of July weekend 2015. July 3rd was Stoney’s Birthday and Josh got me to make his father’s favorite dessert, German Chocolate Cake. We knew his parents approved of me when they fought over how many of his dad’s cupcakes his mother could take to neighborhood friends while watching fireworks. I found out later the extra German Chocolate Icing I left, his father guarded and carefully portion by the spoon full over the next 2 weeks. Then I met his brother and some of his parent’s family in Bristol that weekend for his cousin Emily and Aaron’s engagement party. When we arrived at the engagement party his brother had set up 2 golf carts to give us a tour of the grounds and golf course. The golf carts were brought to our parking spot and his brother immediately took me in the first golf cart and made Josh drive his parents in the second golf cart. I survived that weekend after first hand experience of listening to him and Jeremy’s brotherly banter all night. I figured I was accepted when at Christmas time at the Ratliff’s his cousin Emily said hello while checking my hand for a ring and his other cousin Joy saved me from Granny Ratliff spraying me with Whipped Cream during their family games at Christmas screaming “No Granny don’t Scare this one away because he may never find another one”, lol. After our holiday tour that started in Georgia went through Tennessee, Virginia, and Indiana then back to Georgia. Our families started asking if we were going to get married and we would answer we aren’t in a rush and we were seeing where things led us. We started talking about marriage which led us to an adventure we both were ready to take together. We agreed that we wanted to do things different than the norm. So we started planning our wedding before the ring or any of our family knew of our plans. We then started to talk about getting married around my mom and his parents. Along comes Fourth of July weekend 2016 and we found ourselves back in Charleston, SC. We had a beautiful night watching all the Fireworks in the Charleston area from Market Pavilion Roof Top Bar. The next morning before we left Charleston we went downtown to eat at one of our favorite places Jestine’s Kitchen on King Street. We soon found ourselves at the Estate Jewelry store near the end of King Street. As we were walking through the store we came upon 2 rings in the display case but when they were brought out only 1 stood out once it was on my hand. We both were ecstatic that we had found the ring. I was so exciting that I wanted to start calling family & friends but Josh tormented me by making me promise I wouldn’t tell anyone. So our 5 hour ride back to Georgia began and after an hour or so of giving him a hard time he agreed that my friend Ann Mayfield could know because she was the one that introduced us. Bye the time we got back to Atlanta I had got him to agree that I could tell my mom if he could tell his cousin Emily. She was the first family member other than his parents that I meet and he wanted to torture her as well with the secret until we could see his parents again to let them know of the ring. Josh had planned this out so his mother had someone to talk to (Emily) about the ring until it was official. He insisted that we had to talk to his parents first about our decision and that he would talk to my mother and brother to ask them for their blessing. So when we arrived at my family’s vacation and after unloading we were sitting around the table talking to my mother, brother and sister-in-law, I wanted to show my mom the ring but before I could he broke the ice bye telling my mom and brother he wanted to ask for my hand in marriage. I came out with the ring to show my mother and sister-in-law that both took a look at it before my sister-in-law grabbed it and placed it front of him and told him to do it now and she would film it, lol. Again he made me wait until he could talk to his brother to let him know of the news and that he wanted him to be his best man. So he waited till the end of the week on Thursday night. We had signed up for a painting class at the resort and at the end of the class our instructor had told us we could write anything on our painting so I mentioned to him after seeing his Orange “T” that it would had been romantic if he had spelled out “Will you marry me” unknown to me he had the ring on him & he had planned to do that but I had spoiled his plan. Then we headed back to our cabin with all of my family and we were sitting around playing games then he got up from the table looking for my phone because he had takin a picture of his painting and wrote on it “Will you Marry Me?” then sent it to me. As I was looking at his message he got down on one knee and proposed right there in front of my family. Obviously I said yes then we called his parents to let them know it was official and during the call I told his father I wasn’t for sure and his mom screamed from the back ground “No Take Backs!” and the rest is history… Our relationship has been a blessing for both of us. Many ask why we didn’t get together over 11 years ago and we say that fate wasn’t ready for us then. We both fully believe that everything happens for a reason.” – Sarah & Joshua
